I give up. What Maximilian is this? If it's the Maximilian who became Holy Roman Emperor, he wasn't a prince. He did the same job as a prince but his title was Erzherzog, the original term in Austria for "grand duke".

Max's contemporaries were happy to call him "prince", so I think Bill is entitled to do so too.

I guess that after he became the Holy Roman Emperor he could be called "The Ruler Formerly Known as Prince".
