The forces at the Battle of Midway aren't as one-sided as it seems. If you count all the aircraft available on the carriers and Midway itself the Americans had more aircraft. Midway was an unsinkable aircraft carrier. The Japanese surface ships were too far away to make any impact. I think they should have been with the carriers for the added anti-aircraft fire they could have provided. None of this takes away from the American victory. Taking out four Japanese fleet carriers with the loss of one fleet carrier is remarkable. |
