Earlier this month, TMP reported on the case of goblin-goodies, an eBay seller who has been identified by several sources as a recaster (someone who illegally copies figures and sells them as "legitimate").
Recasters generally sell their products as "loose figures," since they can't produce the original packaging for their counterfeit items. However, not all "loose figures" on the second-hand market are counterfeit - many legitimate purchasers discard the packaging when they purchase their figures.
How many recasts do you think are really out there - on eBay, at flea markets, or elsewhere? Is this practice endemic? Is it rare? Is it something to be concerned about when buying loose figures?
When you purchase loose figures via the internet, what is your attitude toward recasts?
