Writing in Proceedings magazine, Jim Murphy complains about "acquisition programs that do not improve national defense."

He specifically cites "recent efforts to force acquisition of a second engine for the F-35 fighter, which then-Secretary of Defense Robert Gates called an 'unnecessary and extravagant expense'."
