Looking to purchase some more merchant vessels for a WWII North Atlantic Convoy Battle in 1:2400th scale (don't want to go smaller, since I already have a number of vessels in this scale), so am seeking for options for reasonably priced ships appropriate for the theater, and period.

By reasonably priced, I mean around $5.00 USD, or less, for the larger vessels, and hopefully around $3.00 USD or less for smaller merchants.

Keep the following in mind:
  1. Generally looking for nicely sculpted minis, in proper scale, and with crisp detail
  2. Willing to compromise with some loss of detail for a much lower price
  3. Would like a range of smaller merchants, in the 3,0006,000 ton range (e.g. not all Liberty or Victory ships)
  4. Ability to serve double duty as targets for the Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe in coastal convoys off the British Coast would be nice, too
Panzerschiffe
Hard to tell on these, since there are no pics of them, and sadly, the merchants only appear to be available in sets now, as opposed to individually.

Out of wood, styrene, or other materials

On an individual basis, they are inexpensive, but the surface is kind of rough, due to the technology.

Please explain in the comments section.
Viking Forge
Another possible option, but pricing on these doesn't appear to make the cut, and there aren't many photos of the merchants on the website (at least that work for me).

The logical choice for merchants, and other reasonably priced WWII vessels, since they provide nicely sculpted minis at a good price, and have for the last 30 years, or so.

Buck up man, and spend the dough, or better yet, get your convoy battles participants to provide them for the game. To teach them a lesson as to the true horrors of the Convoy Battles, take a hammer to any merchant vessels lost to torpedoes, mines, aircraft, collisions, etc., during the scenario. That'll teach them about attrition warfare, especially at $9.00 USD+ a pop!
