Having read all of Howard's books and most of the later authors like John Maddox Roberts, Robert Jordan, etc., IMO none of the movies represented the Conan of the books. I remember how disappointed I was when the first one came out with Arnold's bafoon Conan. The second one had Conan a little more intelligent, but still a moron and too much slapstick humour. The new one was a little closer to the intelligent barbarian in the books, and the story basis matched the similar themes throughout the novels. But the acting sucked! Stephen Lang was about as convincing an evil sorcerer with his Virginia accent as my cat would be. And Rose McGowan, seriously? Just having Ron Perlman in the cast guaranteed it a B or C rating. The only decent thing about any of them was the music scores of the de Laurentis movies. Hopefully one day, before I'm gone, someone who has actually read the books and not just a comic or two, will create a screen version worthy of Howard.

Which Conan movie did you like better, the new one or the old one with Arnold? I think the actor in the new one looks like Conan, but the old Conan movie has a better story, better script, and better music.
