White Dwarf – around issue 7 I recall – The Magic Brush. Based on that I made a lovely pocket money income through my teens painting display models for GW at Dalling Road. This was waaaay before Mr Dallimore, and involved more layers.

If I recall correctly, "stainpainting" was a technique originated by Duke Seifried in the 80s, and was a speed-painting method that used washes.
