I personally want to see an alt-history board. Not all alt-history has a connection with sci-fi. A friend of mine is writing an alt-history novel with no sci-fi elements, set in a alternate U.S. that only has _some_ resemblance to reality. There are _no_ sci-fi elements _whatsoever_, so talking about it there makes no sence. At the same time, there's no direct analogue with a historical period. Saying "alt-history should be posted to sci-fi" is like saying "horror should be posted to sci-fi". I'd even argue that horror is _closer_ to sci-fi than alt-history is. There are fans who enjoy alt-history as a genre in and of itself. I really don't want to have to watch a half dozen boards where I'd have little interest in the hope that I'd see something about alt-history. I'm not a major fan of Napoleonic wargaming, but I'd love to see an alt-history campaign based on a Napoleonic invasion of Britain, or a "Napoleon never lived" European history. I could also see Napoleonic gamers being peeved if the Napoleonic board was filled with alt-history topics. I can't imagine an alt-history board being that much of a burdern. I wonder how many people who voted not to create a new group even have an interest in alt-history... |
