Well this was a last stand though I would say at the beginning of the battle the British did not think that was the case.

Oh and it did not need to be either.

Due to several mistakes; forming battle lines to far from the camp and thinking that Zulus were unable to face a modern army.

Led to it being a last stand.

If they had done what the Boer volunteers told them to do it would have been a victory.
