POLL DESCRIPTION

Suppose that you've placed a large order with an online or mail-order retailer. The retailer discovers that he doesn't have one of the items in stock.

What should the retailer do?

ship the partial order

Ship only the items that are in stock, and include a note that an item was out of stock.

ask customer for instructions

Put the order on hold, and notify the customer that the item is out of stock, and wait for his instructions.

ship and backorder

Ship the in-stock items. Notify the customer that the unavailable item has been placed on backorder. Ship the backordered item when it comes in.

ship and notify

Ship the available items. Notify the customer when the out-of-stock item is in stock.

hold order until item comes in

Put the order on hold and wait for the out-of-stock item to come in from the supplier, then ship the complete order.
