I always find it odd that "educated" people will claim that information that has more historical proof than what they desire to believe will just become complete deniers. To the point that if they are given evidence to something that they choose not to believe in they will discount everything related.

I used to think that that was the very religious, but more often than not it is those who claim secular as their religion of choice. It often requires more faith to deny the historical record as listed in the bible.

My thought based on both the written and archeological records- a real city that underwent a real siege and while there might be some details off, probably closer than anyone would want to believe.
