Frederick Supporting Member of TMP writes:

Lately I have been thinking more about the elevation and am experimenting with options for flatter bases, especially given the explosion of plastic basing options with the new plastic figs – but only for new armies – I am most certainly NOT re-basing all 1200 Ancients!

I am glad John raised this issue, because I don't feel like a lone crank – I never liked the "black sides" because – as the Doctor so eloquently states – minis are for gaming, not statues

I like to paint the sides the same colour as the base, although I don't add flock on the sides because it makes them too hard to fit on a movement tray

See – agreeing with John isn't so hard!

Personal logo John the OFM Supporting Member of TMP remarks:

I often see beautifully painted figures with nice terrining, and so on. But, then, they do not paint the sides of the base, leaving it shiny black.

To me, that severely detracts from the appearance. For one thing, I hate large high bases. They elevate the figure too much from the terrain. Leaving the sides unpainted only enhances the "bowling trophy" look, or the "standing on a soap box" look of the slottabase.

Does anyone else agree, or am I just being a cranky minority again? grin
