Well, the nearest club I actually located was a two-hour drive each way. They were welcoming enough. There is supposed to be one meeting in the local game store, but leaving a note on their tables asking for contact has received no response, so they could be unwelcoming--or they might not read anything but rules and game conditions. It happens.

Mike Siggins, writing in a past issue of Battlegames magazine, mentions that he's received multiple complaints from new gamers who find themselves ignored at the local game club:
Surely we can't still be in that stupid position where some clubs advertise, presumably want new members and income, yet don't have the common courtesy to break off from a game to make someone feel welcome?
