POLL DESCRIPTION

lugal hdan opines...

Traveller has been around a long time and gone through many, many revisions. Some people play "by the book", some use Traveller as a toolkit to create their own settings. Many people still prefer the original rules, love the newer rules, or even just transport the Traveller "mind set" into another rule system they prefer.

Terms

Traveller Rules
genetic descendants of the original "Little Black Books", using six core stats, 2d6 for tests, skills with skill levels, and the idea that characters gain skills before they go adventuring. As opposed to a traditional D20 setting where you level up by adventuring and your abilities are determined mostly by your class.
OTU
"Official Traveller Universe" The 3rd Imperium and surrounding areas.
MTU
"My Traveller Universe", a custom setting created from the LBB rules that may or may not incorporate some elements of the OTU.
LBB
The "Little Black Books" of the Classic Traveller rules. For our purposes, only books one to three or The Traveller Book.
CT
Classic Traveller rules, including all LBBs and expansions up until the release of MegaTraveller.
MGT
Mongoose Traveller - a licensed version of the Traveller rules. Essentially a modernized CT with more support for non-OTU settings.
NT
Newer Traveller. Newer version of Traveller rules created by Marc Miller. Generally diverge from CT rules but retain Traveller's basic "go adventuring after you know what you are doing" paradigm. I've lumped MegaTraveller, TNE, T4 and T5 into the same category, possibly unfairly, to save space in the poll. You could argue that MGT belongs in this category as well, but since Mongoose has made a conscious choice to diverge from the OTU setting in a number of their books, I think they should have their own category.
ART
Alternate Rules Traveller, including GURPS, T20, BESM, Hero, etc... This is the Traveller setting adapted to other rule systems and/or playing styles. Though ART+MTU might sound redundant, it represents Traveller "flavored" settings played with non-Traveller-based rules.
