Personally I prefer Tamiya Grey primer in spray for 25-28mm and above. It shows all the details and where the shadows and higlights must go better than white I used before.

GW Black spray for 15mm when I have to speed paint.

Personally I do not like black too much as I have to paint first in a lighter colour before applying reds and blues to get the tones I want. I also tried browns but didn't like them also as I lost the shadows and highlights with it.

In a recent discussion about GW Primer, GRPitts said:

First of all, one should always prime with white. There is nothing better on the market (IMO) than Krylon Flat White Primer.

Black primer is a waste of time and money (again, IMO). With white primer, one can do a multitude of shades that you simply cannot do over black.

To which I replied:

What may be true for you is certainly not true for others, including myself. You are wrong, in my opinion, and my paint jobs would bear me out. Use decent paint and you can get every imaginable shade over black primer that you possibly can over white.

So, what color primer do you prefer?
