I prefer clear, to-the-point writing. Casual style and humor in background snippets, quotations etc is fine and may help to convey the background. Stopping in the middle of an explanation to make a bad pun is just annoying.

POLL DESCRIPTION

CPBelt wonders...

Do you like rules that have a bit of humor in them, sometimes poking fun at themselves or the situation? The World at War boardgames tend to do this. Or do you like your rules no-nonsense, get-to-the-point?

I tend to like a bit of humor in the rules. I find that I do this when writing my own rules or nearly anything I write. On the other hand, I don't want so much humor that it distracts me from the rules themselves.
