I have to say it depends on many things. The ruleset is a biggie. Somethings are too simple to play with a few folk, others too challenging to be going on several places at once, something I think is required for large games.

Much depends on the GM's prep and style. I would never have played any Leading Edge mini rules (I love running the Aliens board game, though) if it weren't for a GM that took care of all the table look ups and interpretations.

Much depends on the players; can they actually take care of themselves? In the case of the last para, obviously not moi in that case.

Even the con has an effect. Does it have spaces quiet enough to allow a GM to focus the players on the game?

Bring 'em on! A dozen. A hundred.
