I would venture an OPINION that the answer might depend on the game.

My small sample size of actual, known to me personally gamers, would say that the education level parallels society in my area as a whole.

I would also venture that depending on the game, it goes up or down.

My sample size of historical WWII players I knew changed demographics when FOW came out. It was pretty educated before, much less educated after.

Not a knock on the game, but a migration from certain games so to speak.

Is the average wargamer better educated than the average member of the public? Based on the wargamers that I know, I suspect that the answer is yes. Most have at least a bachelor degree and there are a couple with doctorates. Of course, it is arguable that you need a few brain cells to be a wargamer.
