I voted "likely" based on what information was available to Boney at the outset of the campaign. In hindsight it is very easy to come down hard on the Corsican, but the little fellow was riding pretty high at the time he decided to go after the Rus. The Russians just decided (or more realistically, blundered into) a longer term strategy that bled the French. I imagine at the time, many if not most observers were predicting French victory. |
