Right now for me the real fun of the hobby is comparing various gameplay approaches to the same set of tactical issues.

So, yes. Lots of different rulesets for the same era, and not just to represent different command levels. Different rulesets for the same era and same command levels. To distill into my own perfected house rules, of course.

unknown member wonders:

A recent post on worst ACW rulesets got me thinking that aside from scope (skirmish versus divisional focus), that I enjoy different rulesets depending on who I am playing with. Stars and Bars played on a very regular basis with the same group of people can be a lot of fun – at a convention, it can be deadly. At a convention or that occasional game, I much prefer Fire and Fury since it can be taught fairly quickly. For several periods I game (Napoleonics, ACW, AWI, and Colonials), I find I have different sets for different reasons.

Does the level of complexity of a ruleset change for you based on available time or familiarity with the rules?
