Captain Gideon writes:

Mute Bystander I have to disagree with you.

When you say "Greatest is greatest no matter what the genre" there's more to it than that I think.

The Greatest Wargaming Movies to me refers to Historical movies if I understand this correct.

I mean you can't lump movies like Sink the Bismarck and Waterloo in with Star Wars and Robocop it just doesn't work that way IMHO.

Wargaming as I see it is broken down into several sub-groups which are:

Historical
Sci-Fi
Fantasy

When you say Greatest Wargaming Movies what are you referring to?

For me doing Waterloo on the tabletop is totally different than say doing a Star Wars game.

It would be easier if you did multiple polls like:

1.Greatest Historical Wargaming Movies
2.Greatest Sci-Fi Wargaming Movies
3.Greatest Fantasy Wargaming Movies

Does'nt this make more sense than lumping everything in one poll?

POLL DESCRIPTION

Personal logo John the OFM Supporting Member of TMP opines:

My one criterion here (which you will probably ignore) is that this movie must lead to wargaming scenarios! Either you put the game on, or you dream about doing them.

Now, film pedants will argue for Citizen Kane as the Greatest Movie Evah! Ptui! You can't make a wargame out of that! Neither, sadly, the Godfather. Or Singin' in the Rain.

My favorite movie inspirational for gaming is Zulu. I have played in at least two Rorke's Drift scenarios, both with widely different rules.

Earlier tonight I mentioned The Man Who would Be King. There is certainly an army, but used against who?

The Wind and the Lion has possibilities.

People have been gaming The Lord of the Rings since the Courier was mimeographed.

I would love to do Shaka Zulu.

Note I have not left out miniseries…

What do you suggest? (I have deliberately left out a few, knowing they will show up.)
