I have no interest in a 'friendly style of game' – because I do not believe it exists – it is being used (falsely I believe) to conflate tournament/competitive gaming with unfriendly and vice versa.

I'd potentially look at a ruleset that says more roleplaying options (you can do this with many a skirmish level set), but sticking 'friendly' on the cover won't drag me in. I've never been to a tournament in my life, but all the 'tournament gamer' issues people raise have cropped up in games I have participated in over the years.

Friendliness is a state of mind of the player not a construct of the ruleset. IMO YMMV

POLL DESCRIPTION

According to the introduction in Warlord Games' Hail Caesar:

…Many reading this book will be perfectly aware of how games are played of the various types and styles of models available, and even of the various rulesets that are commonly used at competition and inter-club level. Our rules are not intended to compete with such – but are a deliberate attempt to produce a more friendly style of game with a strong element of role-plaving by the participants…

As an Ancients gamer, are you interested in "a more friendly style of game"?
