Hmm. I thought I'd already posted a reply to this but I don't see it anywhere.

I guess I'd reflect that many movies I have not read the novel to are still enjoyable as dramas -- but I wouldn't read the novels (e.g. Ben Hur, Quo Vadis). Others exist only as screenplays (Cleopatra). And other treasures still only are accessible as novels (Eagle in the Snow, The Leopard and the Cliff, both by Wallace Breem; anything Anya Seton wrote).

So six of one, half a dozen of the other.
