Waiting is simply not a good idea. I often join various forums when I'm specifically looking for material. To have to wait would be stupid and frustrating. It's a pretty standard operation for most sites to require an email. I've always been puzzled that TMP does not rquire it. |

We've had problems in the past with the occasional spammer, and more recently with "drive by" posters who open accounts just to attack the website or our members. One way to discourage this is to require members to provide an email address with their memberships, which the server then verifies. This is not a foolproof method of discouraging problems, but it does require the spammer/troublemaker to at least go to some effort. On the other hand, this will no doubt discourage some would-be Basic Members from participating on the forums - some due to concerns about giving out their email address, and others who are unable to get the verification to work (usually due to over-active anti-spam filters). Should TMP require a valid email address for all posters? |
