Wheeler was a miserable failure (see his performance at Perryville and during the Tullahoma/Chickamauga campaigns). Forrest wasn't great (see Tupelo). Stuart in actual battle? Better rethink that one. Buford performs well on the battlefield at a few places, but his death in late 63 probably keeps him from being rated as great. Wilson? Good but late in the war. Wilder is not a cav commander, mounted infantry is his forte (done well until the much-praised and over-rated Thomas takes command).
