Tom Bryant writes:

Name recognition (good or bad) may, and I stress may influence my decision as to which ruleset to play or not . The big decider is however, do I like the mechanics or not? I don't care if John Hill wrote a set of rules for the Russo Japanese war or not, if the mechanics look flaky or not to my liking I'll look elsewhere regardless of how much I like Johnny Reb. A very big driver is Do the rules do what I want them to or not? If they don't I must move on.

POLL DESCRIPTION

FusilierDan Supporting Member of TMP wonders:

Do you find yourself buying rules or getting into a new period if a rules writer you like writes rules for that period? For example, Richard Hasenauer (Fire and Fury) comes out with a set of Ancient rules.

Two Hour Wargames is an example of a company that has rules using the same basic mechanics for many different periods. Would you use their rules for all the periods that you play? If THW came out with a set in a period you didn't already have, would you start to collect that period?
