The first ancient game I played with a grid was Strategos and I enjoyed it. Far more than DBA which I was also learning at the time. Thus the presence of a grid won't make me say 'No' to any ruleset just by being present.
For a larger table game of Ancients then I look to more freedom of the no grid (or as Yesthatphil says a personal grid) set up.
I haven't played a Peter Pig ancients game but I was properly converted to the idea that they could work well in a miniatures game by PBI and Hammerin Iron from Peter Pig and Bag the Hun by TFL. I suspect that my interest in grids will vary a lot based on the nature of the game scale and physical size as well.

So I voted Yes I like them – although I do not consider them universally my preference, nor would I want to see all my rulesets for the same force scale and table size to suddenly become gridded.
To me they are another part of the collection of ruleset features that may or may not work when I assess a novel game.
