I liked games at about 200 points or less, without Hand Of God armies… no Space Marines, no Necrons.

When playing a game at a much smaller level than intended, it is important to limit the extras available as well. No individual characters, only unit leader upgrades. No additional hardware unless it is an option for eveeyone in the unit. Minimum unit size halved. Troop choices only. No vehicles.

Now you can have a nice little game of Imperial Guard or Eldar Dire Avengers defending themselves against a Kroot hunting party or Orcish slavers.
