Writing in Slingshot magazine, Patrick Waterson explains that the chariot fell out of fashion for four reasons:
  1. terrain (only suitable for flat battlefields)
  2. cavalry (more cost-effective replacement)
  3. reconnaissance (chariots weren't good at it)
  4. cost (too expensive)
