I'd like to note that Napoleon's Battles has made the second round in both "Games that have stood the test of time" and "Best ruleset that never caught on." Evidently so far 16 of us think it's an enduring classic and 12 think it's great but dead. (No space in either poll for those of us who didn't/don't care for it.) This strongly suggests that either we have no notion of what the words mean or--I think more likely--we really have no notion what's going on with a rule set beyond whether we play it with our friends or we see it on convention programs. See also arguments about how many (historical) (miniature) wargamers there are and the "graying of the hobby." Some of us know about history, rules and figures. but we know less about the overall hobby/community than we think. (Copy to other poll comments.) |
