Well, I get the position they are not Terminators, but it might just be splitting hairs. The Borg are (insert race here) of flesh and blood, with mechanical add-ons (possibly to replace parts destroyed during body acquisition). So their base structure is bio, with some mechanical. On top of that, they are hive-mind controlled. So to me the Necrons are not even close. As for Terminators being software loaded, and Necrons being formed by taking an "intelligence/soul/mind" and implanting that into a mechanical form for immortal life I see little difference. The software of the future may very well be someone's soul. Doesn't need to be bits and bytes. In the end, it's a fully mechanical body with no need for flesh, blood, etc. And it doesn't strike me as "undead". But heck, that's just me. Fluff? There's fluff? I started with the Necrons when they were a magazine article. They can change it all they want, but an all-metal humanoid skeletal frame, coupled with an "I'll Be Back" rule (and those who just read that, I KNOW you said that in your mind using an Ahnuld voice immitation) just screams Terminator to me. |
