The two ocean navy did bring excellent results for the USA in WW2. Potected our coasts, transported our military to far lands and supplied them (and our allies too). Considering that the blockade of Germany contributed greatly to their defeat and demoralizing in WW1 I am surprised at the quote.

As far as Hitler concentration in "mechanized" I am reminded of this quote from Webster in Band of Brothers;

"David Webster:
[at a passing column of German prisoners] Hey, you! That's right, you stupid Kraut bastards! That's right! Say hello to Ford, and General Bleeped textin' Motors! You stupid fascist pigs! Look at you! Historian John Lukacs observed that Hitler recognized that motorization had changed land warfare, while Roosevelt was still rooted in a belief in the supremacy of naval warfare. Armies could now move faster overland than by sea.
