Fitz, welcome to the 21st Century, in which anything having to do with the movie trumps anything having to do with the book. It's the reign of the Californians. They've ignored screenwriters for so long they think authors are a superstition. I have seen critics praise Hitchcock for his brilliance at points in Psycho where he followed Robert Bloch with great fidelity.

Still, at this stage Twelve O'Clock High seems likely to be the only WWII novel I've read which will make it to Round Two. I don't think anything without an associated film will make the cut.
