You MUST have Dieties! In fact, I'd say it's probably NOT a historical game at all if Deities are NOT included, and that goes for everything up through the 10th Century. Folks who keep the influence of the Gods out of historical gaming are missing out an a large part of the historical background and flavour of those times.

At the risk of imposing my current fad on TMP even more... would you game the Trojan War? If not: because you don't do Ancients (or more controversally, fantasy)? because there are no rulesets that adequately mirror the type of combat on the plains of Ilium (skirmish/duels between champions)? there are no figures, or figures in your scale you like? you're allergic to large wooden horses? other?????
