My great uncle flew beaufighters with Coastal Command, agree with above. The best all around though probably was the Mosquito – though do like the A20, Pe-2 and black widow for different roles.

So, was the Mosquito the best all-round, two-engine plane of WWII? It did fighter, bomber (4,000lb bomb load!), fighter-bomber, reconnaissance, night fighter, anti-ship, close air support, prison break-outs, etc.

It flew fast.

It flew high.
