This reminds me of the brief medias sensation c. 1989 that said making a green Magic Marker stripe around CDs would improve the sound quality. No one seems to remember this now (or will admit to being part of it). But there used to be people who swore by it.

I seem to recall reading in GHQ literature to bake your figures after painting them, to seal the paint job and help it stick better. I've never tried it – have you?
