Hmmm: Hard Cheese vs. Soft Cheese. I know how cheese is definined in some gaming circles. I wonder how the qualifiers Hard and Soft change that definition. |

| POLL IS CLOSED |
| POLL DESCRIPTION | |
During each painting round of Last Painter Standing 2, the Finalists must paint a 'mech in accordance with the theme selected for that round. Please vote for your favorites (up to five) among the proposals submitted by TMP readers for this round. The top-voted proposal will be used for Round 2. | |
Fire | The prototypical flaming graphics one usually sees on muscle cars.
|---|---|
Chrome | An all-metallic theme - anywhere from sleek silver to 50's cars.
Dazzle | Think WWI airplanes and warships. The dazzle scheme is intended to break up the lines, make it unclear if the 'mech is coming or going (this could include painting a face on the back, etc.) and other things. It's not to stop being seen, but to make it harder to be hit (hey, it's Battletech, targeting technology isn't much better than the Mk1 eyeball). For more information
Predator | Painting so parts of the 'mech resemble natural predators (sharks, tigers, whatever).
Urban | Just urban camouflage.
Victory Parade | This 'mech will be marching in the victory parade, representing the entire unit. |
Anime | Mostly white, clean styling, occasional symbols and decals, that special something that makes it go "ssshing!" when it pulls a weapon, etc...
Character Driven | The 'mech must look like it has a story behind the paint job - something very personal to the 'mech pilot in question. This should inspire things like elegant murals painted across the side, details reminding one of WWII bomber nose art, or something even more bizarre. |
Red Planet | Paint schemes suitable for a Mars-type planet.
Pirate | (aargh, ya lubbers shouldn't need no talkin' about this one)
Shiny | High reflection or high gloss look.
White & Pink | Use white and pink as main colours (making that look good should be a decent challenge for any painter)
Evening Wear | Whether or not your 'mech can pull off a backless dress is up to you...
Aircraft | Adapt a real-world aircraft camo scheme to a 'mech
Uniform | Paint the 'mech based on an historical uniform
Garish Contrast | Green and orange, or pink and purple - can you make a
silk purse out of a sow's ear?
Field Improvised Camo | Field-improvised camo is as old as armored conflict. Sometimes 'mechs get fielded in colors that are inappropriate for the
theatre. What happens when the tech crews make a quick workaround?
Wildman | "Oh, that 'mech? That's Crazy Joe's. His 100-9 file
has its own staff and office building."
Trainer | Experimental or training vehicles are often painted in
distinctive, high visibility markings. What would a training version of a 'mech look like?
Sad Case | Damaged Battlemechs are repaired in an inverse-severity queue, which means that job with the missing arm and leg and holed left torso might not get worked on until the truce that ends the 9th Succession War. Every once in a while, a crew will cobble together one of these sad cases out of two or three "donor" vehicles. What would this look like when it comes off the line?
Tank | Paint job based on a real armor paint scheme.
Scary | Why try to hide a 10M-tall war machine? Wouldn't it be better to paint it black with white skulls? Or flames? Or a big ol' Trogdor on the side? Really scare the jibblies out of the other guys. There they go again... The jibblies.
Corporate | Sponsored 'mech, like a stock car at NASCAR
Corporate Mascot | Mechs painted up to look like cooperate mascots (Ronald MechDonald?? Mechy Mouse??)
Grafitti | Mech that has been worked over by grafitti artists
Hot Rod | Customized by hot-rodders to look fast
Nose Art | The 'mech must have nose art, similar to WWII bombers
Art Deco | 1920's art style - characterised by use of aluminium, stainless steel, lacquer, inlaid wood, sharkskin, and zebraskin; bold use of zigzag and stepped forms, and sweeping curves (unlike the sinuous curves of the Art nouveau), chevron patterns, and the sunburst motif.
Art Nouveau | In the Art Nouveau style: Dynamic, undulating and flowing, curved "whiplash" lines of syncopated rhythm; hyperbolas and parabolas; plant-derived forms.
Fiesta | Scheme based on Mexican art and culture
Peter Max | Psychedelic paint scheme in the Peter Max style
Cubist | Paint scheme that derives from the Cubist art movement
Harlequin | Painted after the traditional costume of the harlequin - lozenge-shaped motley, black mask with red blemish. For more information
Golem | Paint scheme inspired by the metal golems of fantasy
WWII German | Paint scheme inspired by WWII German paint schemes.
Cheese | Painted as if made of cheese
Lozenge | Painted in lozenge camo, in the style of WWI German aircraft
Police | 'Mech adapted for police work
Firefighter | 'Mech adapted for firefighting work
Construction | 'Mech refitted for construction work
Exploration | 'Mech in use for planetary exploration
Mining | 'Mech refitted for deep space mining
Steel Viper Gamma | 'Mech is painted with scales in the pattern of any
Terran snake.
Robinson Rangers | Red and black
Goliath Scorpion Delta | Mech painted to look like molten lava
Davion Brigade of Guards | Vertical stripes of red white and blue, in
the following pattern: blue-white-red-white-blue
Lyran Jaegers | Half of the 'mech is solid color, the other half is a checkerboard of white and the given color. Color choices are blue, green, yellow, and gray
Diamond Shark Omega | Dark green with red accents, and a pattern of sea corals up the right leg.
Greenburg's Godzillas | Green, sometimes with scales. Mechs are covered
with random corporate logos.
Diamond Shark Rho Spina | Blue gray with iridescent accents
Tron | Cyber/virtual look, inspired by the movie Tron
Primary Colors | Using red, yellow, and blue as the primary colors
Acid | The 'mech should look as though it has been over-exposed to a corrosive atmosphere
Radiant | 'Mech must have a "glowing" appearance
Union Jack | British patriotic scheme
