Just a couple of things … Dark Age is an Italian term from Renaissance Humanist usage (nothing to do with English public school prejudice or preference … wink)

… and the terms of the poll was indeed narrowly defined to Europe.

Periodisation is always contentious, of course – but people will always use these shorthand terms.
