Well, "Never Better" is the winner followed by "Same As Always" and "Gradual Improvement". After having thought about this some more over the last few days, I would have to say that in terms of the "community"; it's a Golden Age. In fact, you could say that about almost everything. The Internet has allowed for communication and the exchange of ideas in a way that wasn't even remotely possible before. Forums like this one, Yahoo! groups and what-not are excellent resources for many hobbies. However, in terms of people actually playing the game, I would say Near Extinction. I simply just don't see enough new people playing. Actually, I don't see enough people playing period. And the ones who are are the same ones who have been doing so for the last 10+ years. I thing the industry has improved in many ways and maybe in Britain and Europe there has been growth but in the US, I just don't see it. There are too many "dead" areas in the US and I don't see that changing anytime soon. I envy those of you who have children that show interest or who live near like-minded gamers. But I think that's a very small minority compared to most of the US where if you said "historical", people would respond with "Oh, you mean like Anachronism?" And you might be lucky to hear even that. Sir Jolt |
