I have the following bumper sticker on my laptop: "I played D&D before it was cool." This generally starts the discussion with: "What's D&D?", and then moves from there. I get a mixed response because of the "baggage" associated with that "demonic" game. Yet despite that, I often get to show folks the pics of my minis I have on the laptop and the pics I have taked of games in progress (which often amazes folks when they see the terrain I have made).

From an Art standpoint, people find that quite amazing. But when the subject matter of what's being played comes up, I get very mixed responces.

I've run the gamut, from folks being so interested, I got them into the hobby, to some so horrified, I am surprised the conversation didn't turn to Goodwin's Law. But honestly, do we as gamers tend not to tell non-gamers for fear of how we'll be portrayed or seen? (I've seen people put bowling on their resume, but never a wargamer mention his hobby.) I think it's an honest question? Do we get a good rap, or a bad one?
