A rather broad question with too many sub-categories to make it worthwhile. So, I will mix categories in my response. These bands were all important to the rock sound that characterized the decade, but I put them in the order that they came to mind.

1.) Led Zeppelin
2.) The Who
3.) Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
4.) Fleetwood Mac
5.) Heart
6.) Blondie
7.) Lynrd Skynrd
8.) Eagles
9.) Doobie Brothers (The Tom Johnson version)
10.)Chicago
11.)Wings
12.)Boston
13.)Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band
14.)Cheap Trick
15.)Genesis

By and large, the 70s were nothing less than a musical limbo; a decade that suffered the ravages of disco and some of the worst pop schlock ever; a decade to be endured more than enjoyed. Nevertheless, there were some some gems that emerged from this otherwise sorry period in music history.

Which "diamond in the rough" is your favorite?

Allow me to start off by selecting Aerosmith.
