Other.

Odds ratios have nothing what-so-ever to do with a good game. Some of the best games I've had, I was outnumbered AS the attacker. Some points:

1. Ratios do not take quality into consideration. For a roughly challenging game for both sides in the Great Northern War, put the Russians on defense, outnumbering the Swedes by about 2:1.

2. Ratios do not take the battlefield into consideration. Is the game table setup for maneuver, or is it restricted? If I can maneuver as the attacker, I can pick my point of attack and bring overwhelming numbers at that point. So, even at 1:1 ratio, the attacker has the advantage.

3. Ratios do not take troop capabilities into consideration. A 'fair' ratio in Vietnam would be different depending on whether the Viet Cong or US Marines were attacking.

4. Ratios don't take the rules you use into consideration. Are you playing something like 40k, where most of the advantages of defense are removed? Or are you playing Ambush Alley, where you don't know where the defenders might pop up?

Those are just a few points as to why ratios are near meaningless

Regardless of the period in history, what superiority ratio do you believe an attacker should have over a defender, where the defender has control of the field prior to the battle (i.e. dug in, lay of the land, home field advantage, etc.) to make it an even battle for both sides?
