I suspect I'm not alone in painting 5 to 10 periods at the same time and so organising my miniatures into recognisable storage allocations should, but never does work.

You'll find upwards of 100 figs on my paintstation from different periods which is confusing enough and so I prefer to let them rest wherever I throw them.
Sometimes I pick up a box containing 10 figs, each from a different army and I'll just go to work on them – works for me and the variety keeps me enjoying my work.

Cheers

Matt

unknown member wonders...

I like my minis to fit just right in the box I store them in. Large empty space in a box bothers me. Yes, I could fill it with more toys, but assume the project is stable and I have what I need. And yes, it's a bit retentive.

I find I often re-arrange to optimize storage. Last night, for example, I removed all my 15mm Colonials from the large three-drawer-and-lid-space toolbox I had them in. Two drawers of Dervish infantry, one of Brit infantry, and the lid space of mixed cavalry and artillery; the problem was that all of my hit markers would not fit into the tool box. I then emptied two other toolboxes that were not fully used, and placed all the Brits in one and the Dervishes in another. They all fitted just right, including the markers.

I then emptied all my 6mm FWC armies into the aforementioned three-drawer toolbox, the plan being to have one nice big box to carry for all the armies. But they did not fit, so tonight I'll have take them out and put them back into their original boxes… Then I'll have to store the figures from the other two toolboxes I emptied to accommodate the Colonials.

Bizarrely, though, it is therapeutic, as it does feel like progress in tidying up the game area, because eventually it will all be 'just so'. Until I start another project, that it is...

So, do you reorganize storage of your toys?
