I used to play Mordheim, and had a great amount of fun doing so. It nicely bridged the gap between playing a mini-wargame, and doing a little storytelling (the ill-adventures of the warband, gathering loot and nursing their injuries).

I took a peek into my WHFB rulebook, and the Skirmish rules in there aren't as detailed as those in Mordheim. Where are the crit tables? The Mordheim book gave the gory details of an expert Axe wounding or Elven/Laser Guided Arrow shot. What about the "roll to see what happened to your guys" table? (If I just missed them, please point out the page #, I'll write it on my forehead in shame.)

I'm not up on the latest in the game, since I played for about nine months after it came out...But the Town Cryer Articles and Mags only served to add "Latest and Greatest" factors to the game. The typical widening spiral of power and prestige that all GW games tend toward, before crashing to the earth to be reborn in a new edition.

The WHFB Skirmish rules don't replace the Mordheim Basic book. They are simply not as cool and detailed.

This opinion fails to take into account the business aspect of GW and subsidiaries. Mordheim is over with if it weren't for fanatic press... I can't see adding onto the game by purchasing a 7 dollar booklet full of overpowered forces once a month. Under my reign of high-faluting gaming, One book would be all a player would need to use... Then I'd go broke.

My feelings? For the good of the game, put all the warbands into one book, or Re-release them in an appendix (A-La-Bloodbowl/WHFB/ChapterApproved). Let that be the end until it comes back up in the cycle of reanimated games. Better to Hemmorage completely once every 2 years, than bleed out slowly all the time.

POLL DESCRIPTION

Mordheim is both a campaign setting and the original "skirmish" rules for Warhammer. However, now that skirmish rules are included in the main Warhammer rulebook itself, there is some question (as discussed in Fanatic Magazine issue #1) as to the future of Mordheim.

What do you think?

don't play either

I don't play WHFB or Mordheim.

keep as-is

Keep Mordheim a part of the Fanatic lines.

turn Skirmish over to Fanatic

Split off Warhammer Skirmish entirely from WHFB, and turn it over to Fanatic. White Dwarf will continue to cover WHFB (non-skirmish).

retire the game

It's time to retire Mordheim, and make room so that Fanatic can provide more support for the remaining products.

merge into WHFB

Since Mordheim is just a campaign setting now for Warhammer Skirmish, it should be covered in White Dwarf (and eliminated from the Fanatic division).

don't play Mordheim

I don't play Mordheim.

no opinion

I have no opinion on this subject.

don't play WHFB

I don't play WHFB.
