Here's a fellow who's been doing it, though not tabletop, for decades:

I still have all the fixin's to do Full Thrust in the open; pole stakes (tall lawn sprinklers, driveway markers) 100' tape measures, sunblocker/insect repellent, and a bunch of Furita and small AMT/Ertl ships.

Always seemed like the best thing for non-reenactment outdoor wargaming. You're walking around, so keeping the blood moving. One sheet per ship or squadron which includes cheat info isn't too difficult to manage.

If I ever in my life actually finished a construction project, I'd have been doing this for years.

Edit: UK'ers: I know you can't plan it in advance, but if you're ready, you can strike while the weather's clear during a dry spell. Oh, wait, you'll be in the garden plot. Never mind.

With the warmer weather upon us, it would seem the great outdoors would be a possible site for a tabletop game. Would you ever consider playing a wargame in natural daylight?
