I do 20mm (1/72 or 1/76) and 1/285 micro and decal or paint when the orriginal had them. In WWII some nation insignia where applied at the factory, some in the field, some with stencil, some by hand.

The best way to use decals is to gloss coat your vehicles (which gives them great protection) then aply your decals, micro set, micro sol will help especialy if you have anything but a flat surface. Dipping the decal in a soulution of 50/50 "future floor polish" and distilled water will also help to slide it into place as well as keep micro bubbles from causing the silvering effect.

let it dry and gloss coat the area sealing in the decal, it will look like its painted on! Then matt coat. Pro time!

I usually don't. I feel a Balkan Cross and red serial numbers would negate the effects of the 'flage.
