2000 is the standard of choice it would seem although games with 1000 points or as little as 500 down to 250 can be fun as well and I would encourage folks who are just starting to collect an army to do lots of 200-500 point games to get familar with the rules and learn how to play their force. Also these smaller games encourage you to get painting as you are not trying to paint hundreads of figures at one time. Adapting a variation of the WFB Warbands rules can make this fun as well. heck I think it is a good idea for WAB veterans to play these smaller games from time to time as it just makes you a better player for your larger games. On the other extreme games of 3000 on up to 5000 are a blast as well but require time to finish. Basically my group has found that you should figure about 1 hour of game play per each thousand of points. And this has held very true. 5000 points is where I think Warhammer regardless of if it is WAB, WFB,WECW etc. tops out. After that the mechanics begin to slow things down and it is time to switch at this point (no pun intended) to Warmaster if you want even bigger battles. So yes 2000 points seems to be the desired goal but there are many ways to game this system and none of them are wrong. |
