I use three colors of sand, as well as some model RR ballast, mixed together. I paint the base with wood glue, then I dunk them in the mix -- no painting required.

I also sometimes add in some pebbles to represent boulders. These I will apply The Dip to, to give them some shading, and to darken them just a bit. Cheers!

POLL DESCRIPTION

Personal logo Flashman14 Supporting Member of TMP explains:

To what extent do you allow Nature to do do your painting? When landscaping figure/vehicle bases with pebbles and twigs, do you leave them au naturel or paint them Stone and Fallen Log colors?

I used to add all that stuff last and call it good, but now I add it all but grasses prior to priming, and thus paint it.

Poll set up by Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian, based on this pre-poll discussion.
