Its now been 8 months since my freewargamesrules site changed over to the new style and I've been taking on board some of the suggestion for site improvement.

So I have created a new mirror beta site which has cleaned up the interface for the user. It keeps the same look but has made it look more like a conventional website.

Best of all it (1) it does not slow the site down (2) it still makes it easy for me to update.

Please let me know if you like the new beta site here:

or the old style site here:

The decisions of TMP will decide the future look of the site. (Reply here or via e-mail NEW or OLD)

The new site is god because you don't have ads and it has its own domain. But i wouldn't get rid of the recent changes thing because it allows us to see what rulesets have been added recently at a glance.

Love your site by the way, very handy.

The new site is ace – nice and clean. Works swiftly too.

Another vote for the new site.

I really like the new version -- very neat, easy to use, and speedy. And an At A Glance view comes up with one click on "What's New".

math0ne,

Look to the left hand side – Whats New has returned!

New site, if for no reason other than "page load time"

deanoware,

Thats down to the servers. Unfortunately the new site will not remain on that server as I get so many hits on my site I get charged for excessive usuage and I was being billed nearly £25.00 GBP ($50) per month.

Thats why I had to switch to current server and I only pay £5.00 GBP ($10) per month

Doesn't seem to work in Safari browser on my Mac.

The header and contents list down left side appear, but no content in main area.

Clicking on a link seems to open the link but this collapses to nothing at top of screen immediately.

Hope this helps, Martin.

martin,

Does the original site open okay in Safari?

freewargamesrules09 Feb 2007 4:09 p.m. PST

Martin,

Also try this and see if there is a change:

Choose Preferences from the Safari menu and click Security. Make sure that the checkboxes to use plug-ins, Java, and JavaScript are selected and that the "Block pop-up windows" checkbox is not selected.

Pete. I like the fact that the beta site loads faster. However I do like the updates side bar on the older page. Either way I love FreeWargamesrules. Keep up the good work!

Cheers

If you look to the right there is Whats New (just below the Home link).

I'm looking at other alternatives for hosting the website which are not too prohibitive cost wise.

Am working on a version for the Safari browser and looking at alternative hosting costs.

Sorry about delay in replying…

1. Original site works okay in Safari.

2. New beta site still doesn't work even with pop-up blocker unchecked. It seems that the page never finishes loading as, in the browser, the "stop loading this page" button stays up and never changes to "reload the current page".

Hope this helps, Martin.

I think I've found the problem with my scripting could you please try this link (it should be a Safari compatible version) if you could test it for me:

Well I've had a new beta testing of a mac compatible version and that is OK.

I have signed up for a new hosting service so hopefully over the next several days I can migrate the site to the new server.

freewargamesrules12 Feb 2007 5:00 p.m. PST

Ok, signed up to a new host so that should make the site faster.

The beta site has been taken down as it has now gone live and is Mac compatible.

The old tiddlyspot site will soon be taken down.
