Herbert George Wells, author of Little Wars (1913) and Floor Games (1911) and arguably the "Father of Miniatures Wargaming," was born in Bromley, England on this date in 1866. Happy birthday H.G.! |

He doesn't look a day over 125. No, really, I mean it. 120, 123 tops. |

In reading Floor Games recently, I was amused that H.G., even in those early years, was troubled by some of the same problems that still plague us — lack of availability of certain ranges (for example, civilians) and inconsistent scale between manufacturers! |

Reprints of both "Little Wars" and "Floor Games" are available from Skirmisher Publishing. I had never had a copy of "Floor Games" before this and I bought another copy of "Little Wars" to save wear and tear on my hardback copy. |

Many thanks H.G. for all the pleasure your writing and gaming ideas have given me. For he's a jolly good fellow! |

A far seeing man indeed. I love his "The Time Machine". Happy Birthday up there. |
